She has been working on this for about six months now. She started as kind of a rail western horse and if you go back and view the earlier videos you will see she is moving quite differently now.

If you go back and look at the previous videos and see how she was moving, you will see that she was really laboring to be able to carry Ms. Murphy. Now you can see that she is well underneath herself , you can see that the whole topline is beautifully lit up, and she is tracking up and engaging. If you go back and look at the previous videos and see how she was moving, you will see that she was really laboring to be able to carry Ms. Murphy. Now you can see that she is well underneath herself , you can see that the whole topline is beautifully lit up, and she is tracking up and engaging. This is a very good working trot for this horse! Again, this is only after six months and starting with a horse that was a trit trot sort of rail horse in the western world. Now she has a real trot, works over her back, is calm, and has a nice quiet contact with the bridle with no pulling and has a nice foam forming around her lips. Even her canter has become quite nice! She should be a model for Arab owners everywhere!Look how nice and steady your horses can become when they are handled correctly. Look how nicely the back end of this horse is! Look how nicely she is beginning to fill up behind the saddle and is developing through her loin.

Once again, go back and look at the previous videos of Ms. Murphy and compare them to today’s. You will see that she has developed quite beautifully and her stride is a lot longer than it was and she is able to carry the weight more efficiently and comfortably. This is Will faerber from Art2Ride and we will see you next time!

Good morning this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride with my good buddy Contigo. About a week and a half ago we showed you how to work a horse in piaffe, so now we are going to continue that.

When starting a horse in piaffe, I tend to do this every other day or so once I have started a horse in it. I want to remind you of the prerequisites to working a horse in piaffe and they are: the horse is correctly working over his back and that you as a rider have developed the ability to ride on the weight of the rein (that is you are able to release to the weight of the rein). Once the horse has developed enough topline to begin this, he must work in the weight of the rein, otherwise if you start ...

Once the horse has developed enough topline to begin this, he must work in the weight of the rein, otherwise if you start working piaffe, the horse is going to fold out of the reins if your horse is used to being held against the rein. This only works if you ride in the classical system, which is riding with the weight of the reins and light, not pulling at the mouth of the horse.

I still have a line on him just in case he is having difficulty, so I have more line than just the rein. I hold the rein and the whip in my outside hand. As I get started here, I give him just a little tap. Notice how I am letting him move a little forward. I do a couple segments of this and then reward him and then go back and ask for a little more. If you go back to the first video I did with him on piaffe, you can see that he was barely moving his legs, but today he is getting a littler deeper under himself. Notice how he is lowering his hindquarters. Remember that piaffe is the foundation of collection. Collection means that once the horse is engaged and under himself, it is the degree at which he is lowering and maintaining the lowering of his hindquarters.

When we try again, we ask him to be a little more animated this time and it looks quite nice for only being his second week of this! He is moving the diagonal pairs very nicely and he is starting to lower down but it doesn’t have that much thrust. In the correct piaffe we want the horse to jump up, not to snap his legs up.

Thank you very much for joining us here at Art2Ride and we will do another update on Contigo in another week! See you then!

Good morning this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride here in Poway with Laura Sakakeeny, who you have seen once before. I wanted to give you a little update on her and also show you how beautifully her horse is now going.

Interesting thing with this horse today is that she has been able to sit to the canter for the first time and he is beautifully working over his back! This was another horse that was a little broken over in the neck, but now that is straightening out beautifully and we can hardly see that at all. We are very happy to say that Laura just went to her first horse show with this horse doing dressage and did very very well!

After we do a little work, we always come right back to the stretch. We remind and refresh the back and get the blood flowing through those muscles. That is why it is so important for the development of the topline. Just like you, if you keep your muscles compressed all the time, you will soon get sore, same goes for horses. We have to let the muscles breath so to speak.

Go back and compare these videos, I ask that my students do so as well to see if you can start to discern if the horse is stepping deeper under the body and if the back looks like it has developed some. In this horse especially you can see his neck is out longer and he doesn’t have the break in his neck that he had the last time we saw him and he is coming out beautifully and swinging through the back. Once again, this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride with Laura Sakakeeny here at Peppertree Farms in Poway CA and we will see you next time.

Good morning this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and I am here in Poway bringing you an update on Judith Bailey, who we haven’t seen in about a month.

I wanted you to see her now and see how well this horse is trotting compared to our last video. Look at the difference in his trot! Look how clearly he is swinging over his back, beautiful stride! This is a 71 year old beginner rider doing all this beautifully! If she can do it, so can you! Look at this lovely little horse, swinging actively and underneath himself, rhythmic and over his back! Absolutely fantastic Judith!

Once again, this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride and thank you for joining us and we will see you next time!

Good morning this is Will Faerber from Art2Ride here with Ginny Walker and her horse Cordell. We did a very long video on this horse about a month ago showing you how to correct the break in his neck. I wanted to show you how much he has improved since the previous clinic only one month ago. This ride is by his owner, Ginny Walker, rather than my wife, Karen.

As you can see in the video, you can barely see that break in the neck any more. See how much longer his neck is out and how much more swing he has? That is what we want to see, seeking the contact with the bridle. This horse was more broken than any of the horses I have worked with in a long time. It took us a long time to ...

As you can see in the video, you can barely see that break in the neck any more. See how much longer his neck is out and how much more swing he has? That is what we want to see, seeking the contact with the bridle. This horse was more broken than any of the horses I have worked with in a long time. It took us a long time to correct him, but look how nice he looks now! I put these videos up so that you folks at home can see these horses developing over time and can begin to get an eye for it. Most people don’t see horses trained over time, they see perfect horses and wonder how do they get them this way? So once again, that is why I am showing you, so you can see how these horses develop and how you can do it yourself.

Ginny spent a long time just walking this horse. Now he is not breaking in the neck and he has a big swinging trot, this is a huge horse over 18 hands. If you go back and look at the old video we have of him, you will see that he looks behind the vertical all the time because he was so broken in the neck. She is finally overcoming that, which means that those tendons and ligaments are starting to shorten and tighten up and the damage is healing.
