We have successfully created a clinic program that introduces horse and rider to the modern Classical System of Dressage. Horses will achieve their full potential only if they follow a system of developmental stages. Our clinics are most beneficial when students work under a trainer who understands the fundamentals of the classical system, and we work with both the trainer and students. Most clinics are based on putting "band-aids" on issues instead of correcting the root of the problem. Issues are not corrected overnight, if it took years to develop a problem it will require returning to the foundation of the training to correct it.
Our best results are achieved by returning on a 4-6 week schedule to see how the horse and rider are developing and correcting any misconceptions or progressing to the next level. One of our most successful clinic programs is at Talisman Farms in Las Vegas. We have been working with Esther Hillner, a 3-day event trainer, who understands the importance of developing horses correctly using the classical system and the results have been very rewarding. She has been very dedicated to following the program we establish and works closely with us with her students. You can visit her website for more information at www.talismanfarmlv.com. One of the first evaluations we make is if the horse is moving correctly for the level of training it is at. A horse lifting and swinging its back is what we want to see before it is even mounted. We incorporate lunging with in-hand work to achieve this. Riders discover that their position and balance improves as the horse does. Our focus is foremost on the horse. A rider can not ride comfortably and in balance on a stiff, hollow backed horse. Improve the horse, improve the rider. We always leave the student with "homework" until we see them again. We are also available for local clinics. |
